Coffee Chats: Meet Jack Gabelmann

I am a mobile development lead. I have my hands in virtually every native mobile project that Camber is building.
Name: Jack Gabelmann

Title: Senior Software Engineer

Describe your role: I am a mobile development lead. I have my hands in virtually every native mobile project that Camber is building. I help throughout the mobile product lifecycle including initial approach documentation, roadmap development, leading implementation, deployment/distribution, and eventual sustainment with ongoing support and improvements. Where I can’t help directly with fingers on keys, I help orchestrate roadmap strategy.

Where are you located? Derry, New Hampshire

Where did you study? I pursued my Undergraduate degree in Gaming, Simulation, and Robotics from Daniel Webster College.

What do you like best about working at Camber? I love that all the projects I have my hands in are looking to solve real problems or have a positive influence on everyday life. Beyond that, I love that the projects I work on always present me with new challenges or problems to solve. There’s never a dull moment.

Tell us a fun fact about yourself: I have horrible fine motor skills. I’ve lived with a postural tremor in my hands my whole life, which has afforded me the inability to light matches and work with a soldering iron or take really clear photos. It’s given me an unfair advantage at reaction speeds in video games though!

Favorite Camber moment: The Camber holiday party which entailed making a fool of myself at Top Golf and seeing the team in person!

Before working at Camber, Jack Gabelmann worked on iOS application development

What are you passionate about? I am very passionate about work-life balance. I’ve gotten it down to a science over the years as someone who has primarily worked remote his whole career. As a religious fighter against burn out, this is another factor as to why I enjoy the atmosphere that Camber provides. We strive to always work honest and realistically, and it benefits everyone whether it’s a client or our own workforce.

What types of projects did you work on before finding Camber? I built the first native iOS application written for the Mastodon social network, which prides itself on being a decentralized social network maintained by its own communities. Mastodon is a FOSS project with over four and a half million users. I learned a lot about ethical software development, localization, accessibility and more at large scale from it.

What do you like to do for fun? I love cars and everything to do with them, in almost all forms. I love to take spirited drives through the mountains in sports cars. I maintain and administer a couple 50 year old 240Zs. I have built up my own wrangler for off-roading and actively map/scout abandoned jeep trails in NH. Once or twice a year I help provide support in grassroots endurance races.
